Hermanus hotels, South Africa

A range of hotels in Hermanus offer affordable places to stay

Hermanus is one of the best places in the world for whale and shark watching, providing opportunities to witness some of Earth's most powerful and majestic species up close. Every year, Southern Right whales migrate from the icy feeding grounds near Antarctica to the warmer coastal waters of Hermanus. If you're eager to experience the raw power and graceful acrobatics of these ocean giants, Hermanus is the perfect destination for a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

For the more adventurous (or daring) traveler, shark viewing is also popular. Shark cage boats offer great deals and operate a few kilometers off the coast through "Shark Alley," home to the ocean's apex predator, the Great White Shark.

For a more relaxed yet equally rewarding experience, Hermanus is considered the best place in the world for land-based whale watching. Take a scenic stroll over the rocks, cliff paths, and vantage points to enjoy one of nature's greatest spectacles as the ocean fills with migrating whale pods.

The Old Harbor Museum chronicles the history of the area as a harbor dedicated to fishing, whaling, and commerce. Whale hunting has been replaced by an appreciation of the great mammal's connection to the area and its ongoing survival. Keep an eye out for the Whale Crier, a beloved tradition in the town. Whenever a whale is spotted, the colorfully dressed crier sounds his horn to alert tourists about the amazing show about to unfold.

The Wine Route is a popular journey for both connoisseurs and casual drinkers. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings while savoring great food and the region's exceptional wines. The route is also a fantastic way to experience the best of South African culture and warm hospitality.

Nearby, the Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers a unique landscape with more species living in close proximity than anywhere else on Earth. The stunning views from the mountain summits are equally impressive, offering commanding vistas of the beach and ocean.

Other activities for adventure seekers include paragliding, horseback riding, kayaking, scuba diving, and zip-lining. With so many life-enriching experiences to be had in Hermanus, you'll undoubtedly cherish this unforgettable and captivating part of the world for years to come.
