Restaurant
Russ and Daughters has been serving smoked fish, homemade bread and bagels, and dried fruits for over 100 years. Founder Joel Russ emigrated from Poland in 1907 and started selling fish from a barrel on the Lower East Side. In 1935, Russ promoted his three hardworking daughters to be full partners, much to the scandal of the town. You'll find Russ and Daughters at 179 E. Houston St., where it's been ever since 1920.
A Lower East Side icon, Katz's has brought the community together over pastrami sandwiches since 1888. Head on over to the delicatessen for mouthwatering frankfurters, matzoh ball soup, and rugelach. Ever since it opened over a hundred years ago, Katz's has been a popular gathering place. Sit back, relax, and soak in the sights and sounds of the Lower East Side at Katz's.
