Landmarks
On Phi-Phi Don, the climb to the Phi-Phi Viewpoint is steep, but the effort is definitely worthwhile. You'll find the path off the road heading east towards Ao Lo Dalam. Follow the signs, and after a 300-meter hike through narrow, winding pathways and steep stairs, you'll reach one of Thailand's most incredible views. Below, the marine park unfolds with endless, vivid shades of blue and green.
The Viking Cave on Phi Phi Leh, which actually has no connection to Vikings, is a major center for harvesting swiftlet nests, essential for the prized bird's nest soup. A massive bamboo scaffold reaches up to the cave's high roof, where brave collectors climb to retrieve their treasures. Once back on solid ground, they offer prayers and gifts of tobacco, incense, and alcohol to the spirits of the cavern. Centuries ago, passing Chinese fishermen left graffiti, giving the cave its misleading name.
Restaurants
From hotels on Phi-Phi Don, you can explore a wide array of local and international cuisines. Papaya Restaurant is known for its authentic and delicious Thai food that remains a perennial favorite. At Garlic Restaurant, you can choose from a selection of fresh catches laid on ice each evening. Places like Ciao Bella and Cosmic serve excellent pizzas and pasta, alongside top-notch seafood and, of course, Thai specialties.
Beaches
Some of the most famous beaches here are understandably very popular, especially after 'The Beach' movie. However, with a little insider knowledge, you can escape to less-traveled, idyllic stretches of sand.
From the bustling Ao Lo Dalam, you can rent a kayak and paddle out to Monkey Beach, hidden behind one of the many rocky outcrops. It's completely undeveloped and breathtakingly beautiful—well worth the vigorous sea trip of about 40 minutes each way.
Ao Toh Ko is best reached by boat. It's stunning and offers the chance to snorkel with dolphins if you're lucky. Ao Toh Ko is peaceful, perfectly situated, and hard to leave.
Just a ten-minute boat ride from Long Beach is the quieter little Ao Poh beach. Here, you can swim or snorkel in undisturbed jade-green waters, almost as if you're on a private island, yet you're still very close to the lively atmosphere.
